• Duties

    A Medical Assistant performs administrative and certain clinical duties under the direction of a physician. Administrative duties may include scheduling appointments, maintaining medical records, billing, and coding information for insurance purposes. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, and administering medications as directed by a physician.

    720 Hours / 35 Weeks / 8 Months

    360 hour Didactic and On Campus Lab Training Program in Clovis, CA Externship: 360 hours. Shifts varies by site

  • Qualifications
    • 18 years of age or older
    • High school graduate or have achieved a passing score on the general educational development (GED) test or documentation of equivalent education
    • Meet all required immunizations
  • Upon completion
    • Ability to function as a member of the health team within the health care facility
    • Proper patient care
    • Identify crucial elements of safety and infection control
    • Demonstrates effective use of communication and documentation skills
    • Record patient history and personal information
    • Measure vital signs, such as blood pressure
    • Help the physician with patient examinations
    • Perform EKG’s
    • Give patients injections or medications as directed by the physician and as permitted by state law
    • Schedule patient appointments
    • Prepare samples for laboratory tests
    • Enter patient information into medical records
    • Answer telephones and schedule patient appointments
